Creating Memories for Life

A year ago last fall (yeah - 2007) I was approached by my friend Tom to make a funerary box for his wife Shirley who had passed away on June 12, 2007. Although I said yes - I really had no idea how to go about it. Back in the ‘70s, when I was throwing pots in Southern Ohio, I had made an “ash pot” (a salt-glazed jug with a leather and bone lid)– I always figured I might use that for my self – but a funerary box was something totally different!

Recycled Runner Up

I finally finished my Friendship Bench (see this in my on-line Gallery) for the Second Time Around show in the Hayloft Gallery of the Jacksonville Center (I have had this project in “planning” for about 2 years, since it takes a while to gather up the right kind of recycled materials to use in this kind of work).

The Friendship Bench, which is made with an old bed headboard, old church post, barn siding and ceramic tile mosaics, took second place in the People’s Choice Award.
